2-Battery Concept

The constantly growing number of electronic systems and “convenience” consumers in vehicles, such as power windows, seat heating and safety features, is placing ever greater demands on the electrical energy supply. Depending on the engine variant and equipment fitted, a number of models therefore come with a two-battery concept featuring a starter battery and a battery for the electrical system. In normal operation, the starter battery supplies power to the starter while the electrical system battery is responsible for powering the electrical consumers. A separate electrical system control unit permanently monitors the charge level of both batteries, and regulates the way in which they provide reciprocal support for one another if one battery is running low on energy.
