The Golf blue-e-motion concept car is powered by an electric motor whose energy is supplied by a lithium-ion battery. A fully charged battery provides for an NEDC range of 150 kilometres. Weighing just 80 kilograms, the electric motor has a maximum output of 85 kW (115 hp). The Golf blue-e-motion accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.8 seconds and has a governed top speed of 135 km/h.

The Golf blue-e-motion emerged as winner of the Future Car Challenge. The organiser of the Future Car Challenge, which was held for the first time this year, is the Royal Automobile Club, London. More than 60 electric, hybrid and low-emission automobiles, light commercial vehicles and motorcycles from nearly every major car manufacturer were entered.
