In modern vehicles the accelerator pedal acts like a sensor. Based on the position of the pedal, it immediately recognises how much power the driver wants. This output signal is used by the engine management system to regulate the throttle valve, the boost pressure and the ignition. The electronic system simplifies electronic engine management, responds quickly and is a technical prerequisite for the electronic stabilisation program (ESP).
