Electromechanical Power Steering

The electromechanical power steering is a speed-sensitive electrical power-assisted steering system which is only activated when needed and does without any hydraulic components. Compared to hydraulic power steering, vehicles fitted with electromechanical power steering benefit from lower fuel consumption and new convenience and safety functions: active return of the steering wheel to its centre point improves the steering sensation around the mid-point, while crosswind compensation comes to the driver’s aid when driving on a road surface which slopes to one side or in a constant crosswind. Assistance functions such as "Park Assist" and "Lane Assist" also rely on this system’s support. Customised adaptation of the power assistance to take account of the engine and equipment fitted in a vehicle promises a unique steering feel.
