Wheel Speed Sensor

Wheel speed sensors measure the speed of the wheels, or a distance or angle covered per unit of time. All sorts of systems use the signals from the wheel speed sensors. For instance the operating principle of the anti-lock braking system, traction control and electronic stabilisation program is dependent on information about the wheel speed. Navigation systems, too, use the signals supplied by these sensors to calculate the distance the car has covered.
Wheel speed sensors are divided into what are known as passive and active sensors, with active sensors being used today predominantly as a result of their technical characteristics such as precision and minimal size. Active sensors require an additional power source for their operation, whereas passive sensors manage without an external energy source.
