Recycling means returning raw materials to the material cycle; reusing them in new products, in other words.
Previously, the recycling focus for cars was primarily on their metal content. However, the trend is increasingly towards recycling as much of the non-metallic content as possible. Recyclability is therefore a property that is already taken into account in the vehicle design phase.
Before recycling waste, Volkswagen considers whether it is possible to avoid producing this waste in the first place. For this reason, the suppliers deliver most components, materials and raw materials in reusable packaging. 95 percent of all production waste is recycled. In addition, substances and materials are marked in the vehicle in order to facilitate their clear identification during the recycling process.
